A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Per chevron Azure and Gules a chevron Argent, with seven rays Or issuing from the point. Attached below and to the sides of the shield a tripartite Gold scroll inscribed "TAILORED" on the dexter segment, "TO" on the center segment and "SUPPORT" on the sinister segment in Blue letters.
The chevron in heraldry is symbolic of support, the overall mission of the unit. The blue alludes to Infantry training and to the Brigade the unit supports. The seven rays are used to represent the seven stars of the Big Dipper as well as the Northern Lights alluding to the state of Alaska.
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 18 January 1966.
